Class Levels
Yoga
General
The Anusara method is epitomised by good alignment of the body and our playful approach. We seek to honour every student and their unique abilities and we can best serve this by offering distinct levels of class. Hatha Yoga classes at the Santosha Studio are taught in the Anusara style.
Basic
These classes are for beginners, those new to Anusara Yoga or those wanting a slower practice. The fundamental principles of the method are explained and taught using the level 1 Anusara syllabus. It doesn't mean they are easy but most poses are achievable by the majority of people of all ages.
Mixed
These classes are stronger, for those with at least 3 months experience of Anusara, some knowledge of the alignment principles is beneficial. Poses are taken from both level 1 and level 2 syllabi.
Advanced
Not for the faint hearted! A strong practice with poses from all 3 syllabi. Ideally you should have at least a year of Anusara practice and you MUST BE INJURY-FREE.
Restorative Yoga
A very gentle calming practice, ideal for the end of a busy week. Postures are held for longer periods and the body is fully supported with props, allowing you to drop into deep relaxation while strengthening your immune system, digestion and reducing your stress levels.
Gentle
Incorporating all the good alignment principles of the Anusara method this is a much slower approach to yoga than a standard Anusara class. Ideal for seniors, those recovering from illness and students seeking a softer approach to yoga.
Pilates
General
Classical Pilates is a progressive method to strengthen and align the body. Each level builds upon skills mastered in the previous level. We seek to honour every student and their unique abilities and we can best serve this by offering distinct levels of class.
Basic
These classes are for beginners or those returning to Pilates after a long break or those wanting a slower practice and is suitable for all ages and fitness levels.
Intermediate
These classes are stronger, for those who have mastered the basic level and wish to extend their practice. How long it takes to get to this level will differ for each individual, your teacher will advise you whren you are ready to move up.
Advanced
The strongest of our classes, for those who have mastered the intermediate level and wish to move further. Here the full classical mat programme is taught.
Swiss Ball
Pilates on the swiss ball adds a new dimension of balance and fun to the pilates method. Open to all levels except complete beginners
